Colonials host Bearcats in midweek matchup
After three straight road contests, George Washington men's soccer returns to its home field on the Mount Vernon Campus Tuesday to host Binghamton at 2 p.m.
The Colonials' final non-conference home game of the season is slated to be broadcast via ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT: GW (3-3) garnered its first road win of the season Saturday with a 1-0 shutout of NJIT. Brady O'Connor headed in a long throw-in from Colin Anderson for the game's lone goal in the 80th minute, and Thor Arne Höfs made six saves to equal his season high and preserve the clean sheet.
NICE SAVE: After making an A-10 best 93 saves in 2017, Höfs currently ranks tied for second in the conference with 25 stops. The senior keeper, who earned Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week honors for his work against NJIT, has allowed six goals in as many games with an .806 save percentage. He enters Tuesday's game with 19 career shutouts, one behind Jeff Brown for the program record.
TEAM EFFORT: Anderson's assist against NJIT was GW's 14th of the season through six games. The Colonials -- who have scored 11 total goals -- are tied for second in the A-10 in assists behind Massachusetts, which has 16 in seven games. Joshua Yurasits and Drini Redzepi have three helpers apiece.
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON: The Bearcats (1-4-2) battled Colgate to a 1-1 draw in their most recent outing last Friday.
Haris Brkovic and Connor McKnight lead the Binghamton offense with two goals apiece, while goalkeeper Chris Shutler has allowed 11 goals over seven games.
In 2017, GW fell at Binghamton, 4-0, in the season opener for both teams. The Bearcats took the lead in the fourth minute and then added three more after halftime to take the comfortable victory.
COMING UP: GW has a week break before a trip to No. 10 Duke for its final tune-up for Atlantic 10 play. The Colonials are slated to head back to North Carolina for their conference opener at Davidson four days later.
