Senior keeper recorded shutout at NJIT
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Thor Arne Höfs of George Washington men's soccer was named Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Höfs was honored after shutting out NJIT in a 1-0 victory on Saturday. The senior goalkeeper equaled his season high with six saves to record his second clean sheet of the season. It was the 19th shutout of his career, which moves him within one of Jeff Brown's program record.
Against the Highlanders, Höfs made three stops in each half to earn his third win of the season in net. His final stop -- a brilliant tip over the crossbar of a long-range blast -- came just after Brady O'Connor put the Colonials ahead in the 80th minute.
This is the fourth A-10 weekly honor of Höfs' career. The native of Germany was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week once last season and twice in 2016.
