Past unites with present as more than 30 men’s basketball alumni return to Smith Center
WASHINGTON – The GW men's basketball program hosted its second annual Alumni Reunion Weekend on Saturday and Sunday at Smith Center with more than 30 past Colonials gathering together with current student-athletes, staff and fans.
The weekend kicked off with a chance to give back to the community as J.R. Pinnock ('06), along with head coach Maurice Joseph, organized a free clinic on Saturday morning. Alums and current student-athletes were on hand to put a group of 20 kids through an hour-long basketball camp.
On Saturday evening, a reception was held in the Colonials Club, and the weekend wrapped up with another exciting alumni game on Sunday afternoon. After last year's game featured the heroics of Carl Elliott, who hit two clutch shots with time winding down to force a pair of overtimes, this year's edition didn't disappoint, either.
A stacked Blue team featuring the likes of Elliott, Maurice Creek, Kethan Savage, Joe McDonald, Lasan Kromah, Damian Hollis and Skyler White was in cruise control for much of the game. But the Buff squad, with a roster of Pinnock, Chris Monroe, Matt Hart, Jabari Edwards, Herm Opoku, Aaron Ware, Jonathan Davis and Jack Granger, made a late charge to force overtime and took the victory there.
