
Martinez, Lange Land A-10 Softball Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington's Priscilla Martinez and Sierra Lange earned Atlantic 10 weekly softball honors Monday for their efforts in a series win at Saint Louis over the weekend.
Martinez was named A-10 Player of the Week, while Lange claimed the conference's Pitcher of the Week award after the Colonials took two of three from the Billikens to close the regular season.
Martinez continued a hot run at the plate, posting a .636/.667/.909 slash line. The sophomore catcher recorded an RBI and a run scored in all three games, and three of her seven hits were doubles. Her top performance came in Sunday's finale when she went 4-for-4 in a 10-0 victory in five innings.Martinez finished the regular season on a six-game hitting streak to improve her batting average to .366.
Lange tossed the first two complete-game shutouts of her freshman season in the A-10 series. The right-hander allowed four hits over six innings in an 8-0 run-rule win Saturday before limiting the Billikens to three hits in Sunday's five-inning victory to improve to 14-6 on the season.
Lange finished the weekend with a perfect 0.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 11 innings. At the plate, she finished 4-for-9 (.444) with four runs and three RBIs. She helped her cause with a double, two walks and a stolen base.
It was the second A-10 weekly honor for Martinez, who was named Rookie of the Week last season, while Lange picked up her first award from the conference.
GW (32-19, 12-11 A-10) earned the No. 6 seed for the A-10 Championship and opens the tournament Wednesday against third-seeded Dayton at Fordham's Bahoshy Field.
