ST. LOUIS - George Washington softball closed the regular season in style Sunday, cruising to a 10-0 win in five innings at Saint Louis.
Priscilla Martinez paced a 15-hit attack with four hits in the victory, while Sierra Lange tossed her second complete-game shutout of the weekend at Billikens Sports Center.GW (32-19, 12-11 A-10) earns the No. 6 seed for the Atlantic 10 Championship and a first-round matchup with third-seeded Dayton on Wednesday at Fordham. The Colonials posted a winning record in conference play for the first time since 2013.
On Sunday, GW put together two big innings to earn the run-rule win and a road series victory over Saint Louis (27-27, 11-10). Sidney Bloomfield, Jenna Cone, Sierra Lange and Alessandra Ponce picked up RBIs in a four-run third inning.
After Lange worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the frame, the Colonials put up six more runs in the top of the fourth. Martinez scored Marta Fuentes with an RBI single to start the burst before Elena Shelepak and Lange followed with two-run hits. Ponce's single up the middle scored Lange to push the lead to 10-0.
Martinez posted her second four-hit game of the season, including her 13th double. Bloomfield went 3-for-4 and scored twice, while Ponce and Fuentes finished with two hits apiece. Fuentes stole her 31st base of the season to break Megan Linn's single-season program record set in 2014.
Cone had a hit and a walk and scored twice to finish the regular season with her program-record on-base streak at 35 games.
