NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington's Jenna Cone claimed her second straight Atlantic 10 Player of the Week award on Tuesday.
Cone continued an incredible run to help GW win all five games at its Buff and Blue Challenge by hitting .563 (9-16) with five doubles and a home run. The sophomore from California had at least one extra-base hit in every game.
Cone tallied 12 RBIs along the way, including three in both games of a doubleheader Saturday, to boost her A-10 leading total to 33 for the season. She scored four runs and stole a base on the weekend, as well.
Cone has picked up where she left off during an outstanding freshman season in which she garnered A-10 Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference honors. During GW's current 11-game winning streak, she has hit .708 (17-for-24) with eight extra-base hits to raise her season average to .431. Her five home runs lead the Colonials, too.
GW (20-7) opens A-10 play at its home on the Mount Vernon Campus this weekend. The Colonials begin a three-game series with St. Bonaventure with a Saturday doubleheader, beginning at 1 p.m.
