ORLANDO, Fla. - The George Washington women's tennis team wrapped the 2017 season at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus. Playing as the No. 9 seed, GW fell to No. 8 Richmond in first round action, 4-1.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Torrie Browning, the Colonials (11-10) have finished above the .500 mark for the first time since the 2014 season.
The duo of junior Marie-Louise Decamps and senior Taylor Nederlander downed the Spiders at No. 2 doubles, but Richmond took the Nos. 1 and 3 matches to come away with the early point.
In singles play, Richmond increased its lead with a win at No. 2, but Decamps brought the Colonials within one with her straight-set triumph in second-flight action.
Richmond followed with a win at No. 5 before clinching the match at No. 4 in three sets. Each remaining match was in a third-set battle when abandoned.
Sophomore Maria Siopacha finishes her maiden season in the Buff and Blue with a team-best 13-7 spring singles record, playing as GW's top competitor.
The Colonials will graduate seniors Allison Hansen and Taylor Nederlander.
