CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The George Washington softball team fell at Virginia in the final non-conference game of the season, 8-0, on Wednesday evening.
The Colonials (24-22), could not overcome an early deficit after Virginia took an early lead, scoring four runs in the first two innings.
The Cavaliers tacked on three more in the third to move ahead 7-0 before adding the deciding blow in the fifth to end the game by virtue of the run rule.
Senior Megan Linn led GW at the plate with a 2-for-2 effort. Classmate Paige Kovalsky and freshman Elena Shelepak notched the remaining hits for the Colonials.
The Buff and Blue conclude a stretch of seven-straight road games over the weekend with a three-game series at A-10 foe Saint Joseph's beginning with a Saturday doubleheader.
