Men's Track Enjoys Solid Weekend at Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Junior Chris Shaffer set a new program record in the 1,500-meter run, eight other individuals set new personal records, and a trio of relay teams made program debuts as the George Washington men's track team competed at the three-day Colonial Relays over the weekend.
Shaffer's performance in the 1500m, when he clocked in at 3:52.82, broke the record of recent graduate Ryan Tucker by less than a second (3:53.10) as the Satellite Beach, Florida, native finished in eighth place out of 94 competitors.
Junior Carter Day (3:57.03) and freshman Colin Wills (3:58.04) also posted new personal bests in the 1500m.
All four of GW's competitors in the 5000-meter run registered new personal records, led by sophomore Andrew Weber's performance in 14:59.38. Junior Noah Duell finished in 15:06.75 while the freshmen duo of Jon Dooling (15:27.09) and Jack Conlon (16:01.15) rounded out the strong performance.
Senior Jordan Pantalone competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and finished in 9:32.71 for 22nd place. The performance marks a five-second improvment from his previous best, which came at the 2016 Colonial Relays.
A trio of relay teams made program debuts with the 4x800m, 4x1500m and Sprint Medley Relay teams.
Sawyer Bilton, Aiden Kolenik, Jakob Coombes and Evan Garry combined to post a time of 8:22.97 in the 4x800.
Paul Housey, Connor James, Seamus Roddy and Trevor Sye ran the 4x1500m in 16:44.52.
The Sprint Medley Relay also debuted with the quartet of Jared Nelson, Ed Delavergne, Justin Scott and Chris Shaffer clocking in at 3:34.76.
The Colonials also fielded a Distance Medley Relay team as Colin Wills, Ed Delavergne, Carter Day and Charles Arnold finished in 10th place in 10:13.79.
GW will be back in action at next weekend's George Mason Invitational on Saturday in Fairfax, Virginia.
