WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team decisively defeated Morgan State on Saturday afternoon at the Southeast Tennis and Learning Center.
The Colonials (4-3) came away with a 6-1 win after taking the doubles point and carrying the momentum through singles.
GW opened the day with wins at the top two doubles spots, as sophomore Maria Siopacha and freshman Melis Bayraktaroglu won at No. 1 before senior Allison Hansen and sophomore Victoria Kogan teamed up to down their second-flight foe.
Morgan State competed with just five players, leading to defaults at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
Already up 2-0 heading into singles play, the Buff and Blue quickly clinched the match with straight-set wins by Bayraktaroglu at No. 3 and Kogan at No. 5.
Junior Marie-Louise Decamps followed with a straight-set win of her own in second-flight play before Morgan State picked up its lone point, taking the No. 4 bout.
