KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- GW men's basketball junior forward Tyler Cavanaugh garnered honors from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) as he was named to the All-District 4 second team.
Also an All-Atlantic 10 second team selection, and member of the A-10 All-Academic Team, Cavanaugh is leading GW in scoring with 16.8 points per game while also averaging 7.5 rebounds per game.
The Syracuse, N.Y., native has been essential to GW's postseason run, averaging 21.7 points and 9.3 rebounds in three NIT victories as the Colonials have earned a spot in the semifinals of the tournament where they will face San Diego State on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.
In addition to leading the team in scoring, Cavanaugh is shooting .424 from three-point range which ranks third in the Atlantic 10, and has shot it particularly well in the NIT (8-of-13). He hit the 1,000-point mark for his career in the first round game against Hofstra, and has scored in double figures every game this season.
Cavanaugh's selection marks the third straight season that GW has had a player recognized on the NABC All-District 4 Second Team following Isaiah Armwood's selection in 2014 and Patricio Garino's selection in 2015. It is the program's 10th All-District pick since 2003.
