
GW Women's Tennis Downs Navy on Tuesday

WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis squad defeated Navy, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon in the Colonials' outdoor home opener at the GW Tennis Center on the Mount Vernon Campus.
The Colonials (4-7) got out to a quick, 1-0, lead after doubles play. Sophomore Teodora Radosavljevic and senior partner Egle Jakuciunaite took an efficient, 6-1, triumph at No. 3, and freshman Sara Grubac and Victoria Kogan grabbed a 6-3 win in second-flight action to clinch the doubles point.
In solo play, Kogan put the Colonials up by two with a straight-set, 6-0, 6-1, win at the No. 4 spot. Radosavljevic then followed suit with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in top-flight action. Junior Taylor Nederlander clinched the match for GW, triumphing in her third-flight match, 6-1, 6-3.
Navy took victories at the Nos. 2 and 6 positions to grab a pair of points, and junior Allison Hansen triumphed in come-from-behind fashion, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5, to close the match and give GW a 5-2 win.
The Colonials remain home for an Atlantic 10 match against Richmond on Friday at 12 p.m. before visiting James Madison on Saturday.
