WASHINGTON -- The George Washington men's basketball team has earned an at-large bid to the 2016 Postseason National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and will host Hofstra on Wednesday at 8 p.m. on ESPN3.
The Colonials are the No. 4 seed in the Monmouth Quadrant of the bracket while Hofstra is the No. 5 seed. The winner advances to face either Monmouth or Bucknell between March 17-21.
It marks GW's second consecutive and sixth all-time appearance in the NIT after the Colonials were a No. 5 seed in last year's tournament when they beat Pittsburgh in the first round before falling at No. 1 seed Temple.
GW (23-10) reached the 20-win plateau for the third straight season in 2015-16, and its 23 victories are tied for the fifth most in school history. This is the Colonials' third straight postseason appearance, having been to the NCAA Tournament in 2014.
Hofstra, which was the co-Colonial Athletic Association regular-season champion, comes into the game with a 24-9 record. The Colonials and Pride last met on Dec. 28, 2013, when GW won 69-58.
