CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The eighth-seeded George Washington women's tennis team fell to two-time defending champion and top-seeded VCU, 4-0, on Friday in the quarterfinal round of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Championship at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
The Colonials wrap the season with a 5-13 record, while VCU (14-8) advances to the semifinals on Saturday to face the winner of No. 4 Davidson and No. 5 Fordham.
The Rams claimed the early point in doubles action, taking the No. 1 match, 8-0, and the third-flight decision, 8-4. Junior Lana Robins and sophomore partner Marie-Louise Decamps were down in a close 5-4 battle when their bout was halted.
In singles action, the defending champions went up by two with a win, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4 slot before clinching the victory with straight-set triumphs at third- and first-flight action.
GW has no seniors on the roster and will return eight student-athletes next fall.
Freshman Teodora Radosavljevic finishes a stellar rookie campaign with a 19-10 overall singles record competing solely at the top spot to lead the Colonials in victories. Classmate Decamps racked up the second-highest wins tally with an overall 11-9 solo mark playing between Nos. 2 and 3 slots.
