WASHINGTON - GW men's basketball has earned an at-large bid to the 2015 Postseason National Invitation Tournament (NIT) and will play at Pittsburgh on Tuesday, March 17 at 7 p.m. on ESPN.
The Colonials are the No. 5 seed in the Temple Quadrant of the NIT bracket traveling to play the No. 4 seeded Panthers at the Peterson Events Center on Tuesday. The winner advances to face either the top-seeded Owls or No. 8 seed Bucknell between March 20-23.
It marks GW's fifth all-time appearance in the NIT, and 16th all-time trip to either the NCAA or NIT postseason, including 14 total berths since 1991. The Colonials last played in the NIT in 2004 with prior trips in 1991, 1995 and 1997.
GW (21-12) reached the 20-win plateau for the second consecutive season in 2014-15 and its 21 victories are tied for the eighth-most in a single-season in the program's 101-season history. The Colonials' 45 combined wins the last two seasons are the fourth-highest two-year total in program annals (50 - 2005-07, 49 - 2004-06, 47 - 1953-55).
GW and Pittsburgh last met in the 1981-82 season, splitting a pair of meetings as members of the Eastern Eight Conference - the precursor to the Atlantic 10 - with the home team victorious in each contest. The Colonials trail in the all-time series 9-17.
A limited supply of tickets will be available for GW fans beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 16. Please contact the GW Ticket Office at 202-99-GWTIX or @GWTix.
