
GW Women's Tennis Edged by Saint Louis, 4-3

WASHINGTON - The George Washington women's tennis team was edged by Atlantic 10 foe Saint Louis, 4-3, on Monday morning at the indoor East Potomac Tennis Center.
The Colonials (3-4, 2-1 A-10) opened the match with the doubles point in the Nos. 2 and 3 slots but the Billikens (8-4, 1-0 A-10) secured four singles matches for the victory. Senior Leah Pascarella went unbeaten on the day as she claimed both her singles and doubles matches over her SLU opponents.
The No. 2 doubles team of rookie Grace Egger and sophomore Lana Robins extended its unbeaten record to five matches with an 8-4 win over SLU's Aspen Cervin and Madison Cook, and Pascarella and sophomore Stephanie Wei topped Maria Toro and Natalia Yacaman, 8-4, in the No. 3 spot.
Pascarella and rookie Taylor Nederlander then both extended their unbeaten streaks to four matches as they picked up singles wins for GW. Pascarella downed the Billikens' Stephanie Hollis, 6-2, 6-3, in the second flight match while Nederlander defeated Toro, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 5 action.
Robins dropped a 3-6, 5-7 decision to Cervin at the No. 1 spot and sophomore Egle Jakuciunaite fell in three sets to Yacaman, 2-6, 6-4, 2-6, in the No. 3 match. Wei was defeated by Brooke Urzendowski, 2-6, 4-6, at No. 4 and Egger fell to Cook at No. 6, 4-6, 3-6.
GW opens outdoor play at the newly renovated GW Tennis Center on Tuesday when Towson comes to the Nation's Capital. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
