Trio of GW Women's Tennis Players Advance at Regionals

Singles & Doubles Draws
BLACKSBURG, Va. - A pair of singles players and a doubles team advanced for the GW women's tennis team at the 2014 ITA Atlantic Regional Championships on Saturday at Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The doubles team of sophomore Grace Egger and freshman Teodora Radosavljevic highlighted the afternoon as the duo advanced to the Round of 16 by knocking off the tournament's No. 2 seed and No. 55 tandem in the nation in Maryland's Nataliya Bredikhina and Welma Luus, 8-5. It was the first nationally ranked win in both of their careers, as well as the first for the Colonials this season.
Radosavljevic also moved through in singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over James Madison's Rachel Nelson. Junior Lana Robins also advanced in singles as she powered back after dropping the first set to Belen Rivera of Liberty to earn a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-0 victory.
In other doubles action, Robins and sophomore Allison Hansen were blanked by VCU's Olga Barscheuskaya and Salome Kvitashvili, 0-8, and freshman Marie-Louise Decamps and sophomore Taylor Nederlander fell to Marijana Novakovic and Ivana Vukovic of Old Dominion, 3-8.
The USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional Championships is a single-elimination format and winners of the singles and doubles flights will earn automatic bids to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, which will be held from Nov. 6-9 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York. The annual tournament is made up of 22 other schools in Delaware, Duquesne, Georgetown, James Madison, Liberty, Longwood, Marshall, Maryland, Navy, Norfolk State, Old Dominion, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Radford, Richmond, Saint Joseph's, Temple, UMBC, VCU, Virginia, host Virginia Tech and William & Mary.
