GWsports.com is debuting its first-ever official blog site - 22&G: Where GW Athletics & Academics Intersect - to diary and document the trip.
In addition to the 22&G Blog, a GW Men's Basketball Twitter handle launched last week - @GW_MBB - and will also provide updates, photos and videos throughout the tour.
The Colonials are set to visit Rome, Florence and the Lake Como region during their 10-day tour. Highlights of the trip include five games - three against Italian competition and two against American military bases in Naples and Livorno where the team will also conduct youth clinics - as well as sightseeing at the Colosseum, Mt. Vesuvius and the ruins at Pompeii, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and the Ferrari Museum.
GW already received well wishes from nearly 100 loyal fans, supporters and family at the 'Arrivederci Colonials!' reception at the Embassy of Italy on Aug. 8. The event featured remarks from Director of Athletics and Recreation Patrick Nero and head coach Mike Lonergan, introductions from all 13 student-athletes and a rendition of the GW Fight Song - Raise High the Buff and Blue - in Italian. Relive the entire send-off in the Fans, Friends and Family Bid Arrivederci to the Colonials event recap.
Visit 22&G for a more detailed itinerary and tentative schedule of games.
