WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team dropped a one-run decision to District rival Georgetown on Thursday afternoon at Mount Vernon Field. With the loss, the Colonials complete non-conference action with a 9-17 overall record, and open Atlantic 10 play on Sunday with a doubleheader against Fordham.

GW out-hit Georgetown, 6-5, but the Hoyas' one-run fifth inning was all the visitors needed for their fourth victory in the seven-game all-time series. The Colonials left four players stranded on base throughout the contest.

Junior Julie Orlandi went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double to right field in the bottom of the fifth, to tally half of GW's hits. Freshman Victoria Valos went 2-for-3 and junior Tara Fogarty went 1-for-3.

Georgetown (13-17) registered the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth off a double to left center by Alexandria Anttila. Hoyas' base-runner Jordan Hansen, who stood on first, rounded three bases to score. Pitcher Lauren O'Leary (6-7) earned the victory with five strikeouts.

Colonials' senior hurler Kara Clauss (6-11) took the loss, registering two strikeouts, two walks and allowing one run in a complete-game effort.

GW hosts reigning A-10 champion Fordham on Sunday, March 25. The first game of the conference-opening doubleheader is set for 12 p.m. at Mount Vernon Field.
