GW Women's Tennis Falls to Richmond in Home Opener

Despite leading in the opening set of five of the first six singles matches, the Colonials (6-5, 2-3 A-10) could not fend off the Spiders' surge as they fell in their first home match of the spring season.

Escobar and Tyner picked up the lone singles victories for GW in the Nos. 5 and 6 matches, respectively. Escobar downed Smyth, 6-4, 6-3, in the fifth-flight match, while Tyner defeated Horoz in a tiebreaker, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (7) at the No. 6 spot.
In the No. 1 singles match, Corba fell to Matuszczyk by set scores of, 7-5, 6-2. Pascarella dropped the No. 2 match in extra sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. In the third flight, Hamling fell to Cunningham, 7-5, 6-2, and sophomore Julia Blakeley dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Sims at the No. 4 spot.
GW continues its three-match home stand on Saturday, March 24 when the Colonials host Division II California (
