
Seniors Split Doubleheader Against Saint Louis

WASHINGTON, DC - Starter Kara Clauss fanned six Saint Louis Billikens in her complete game outing in game two on Saturday at Mount Vernon Field. The Colonials (15-26-1, 5-13 Atlantic 10) took game 1-0, while the Billikens (28-23, 10-8 A-10) took the first game 8-0 in five innings.
Senior Ali Pardo got the start in game one for the Colonials, pitching two innings and giving up the first five Saint Louis runs.
SLU sent eight batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring three runs on five hits in the first half inning.
Senior Katie Terrazas got on base in the first inning, hitting at two-out single down the right field line but she was left stranded.
The Billikens doubled in two runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 5-0.
Freshman Courtney Martin came into the game in the third inning, giving up two SLU runs in the third and one in the fourth inning. Martin also hit one batter while striking out and walking three.
Autumn Taylor tried to jump start the Colonials offense with a lead off single in the bottom of the fourth. Sandi Moynihan and Julie Orlandi drew back-to-back walks to load the bases with one out in the inning.
Saint Louis' starter Kelcie Matesa struck out the next two Colonial batters to get out of the jam. The Billikens took game one, 8-0, in five innings.
The Colonials and the Billikens found themselves in a pitcher's duel in the second game of the doubleheader. GW's starter Clauss allowed SLU to sprinkle five hits in seven innings, but none advanced past second base.
Lauren Wilson drew a one out walk in the sixth inning. After advancing to second on a passed ball, Terrazas collected her second hit of the game on a single to center field. Terrazas stole second to put runners at second and third for clean-up batter Taylor.
Taylor hit in Wilson for the game-winner on a deep ground ball to the shortstop.
Clauss struck out two and forced a ground out to end the game in the top of the seventh.
The Colonials will close out the 2011 season on the road at La Salle on Saturday, May 7. Game one of the Atlantic 10 doubleheader will start at 1:00 pm with game two following at approximately 3:00 pm
