Orlandi Home Run Not Enough Against Temple

WASHINGTON, DC -- Julie Orlandi hit her first career home run in the bottom of the third inning of the second game against Temple to tie the game at 1-1, but GW was unable to take the lead. The Colonials fell 2-1 in the first game and 3-1 in the second game the Atlantic 10 match up against the Owls. GW falls to 11-13-1, 3-5 in the A-10, while TU improves to 16-18, 7-3.
GW took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of the first game, when Chelsea Lenhart scored on a RBI-single by Tara Fogarty.
The Owls posted two runs with two outs in the inning, to take the 2-1 lead. Temple drew back-to-back walks, followed by back-to-back hits on starter Kara Clauss.
The Colonials got batters on base in the 3rd, getting hits from Katie Terrazas and Lauren Wilson, but were unable to score.
In the second game, Temple got a lead-off triple in the first inning and took a 1-0 lead on a sacrifice fly. TU threatened in the second inning getting two runners on but they were left stranded.
GW answered in the bottom of the third when Orlandi hit a towering fly ball past the right field fence for her first career home run to tie the game at 1-all.
The Owls scattered hits in the fourth and fifth innings but GW's game two starter Heidi Penna and the Colonial defense didn't let a run score.
Temple broke up the tie in the top of the sixth on a solo home run by Ali Robinson and added an insurance run in the seventh, for the 3-1 conference victory.
Clauss (8-8) threw a complete game loss in the first game, giving up two runs on six hits while striking out six and walking two. Penna (3-6) took the game two loss, allowing three runs on 10 hits, striking out three and walking one.
The Colonials will hit the road for their next two-game Atlantic 10 series against Fordham in the Bronx, NY. On Friday, April 8 the game is set for 3:00 pm, while the Saturday, April 9 game is set to start at 12:00 pm.
