WASHINGTON, DC-- The George Washington softball team dropped the second game of the Atlantic 10 series against Saint Joseph's on Saturday, 1-0, at Mount Vernon Field. The Hawks improve to 22-11 on the season, 6-2 in the A-10, while the Colonials fall to 11-13-1 on the season, 3-3 in league play.
The Colonials got on base with walks from Tara Fogarty in the second and Amanda Zakeri in the sixth, but neither made it past second.
GW starter Kara Clauss only surrendered one hit to SJU, coming in the first inning. The Hawks scored in the fifth inning after play resumed for a five minute rain and hail delay. The single run crossed the plate as the throw from second baseman Julie Orlandi sailed over catcher Chelsea Curcio's head.
Clauss (8-7) tossed a complete game for the Colonials, striking out four and walking one.
The Colonials are back in action on Sunday, April 3 when the Temple Owls come to Mount Vernon Softball Field for two Atlantic 10 games beginning at 12:00 pm.
