Women's Tennis Splits Atlantic 10 Matches on the Road

PHILADELPHIA, PA- The George Washington women's tennis team took to the road for matches against Atlantic 10 Conference opponents Temple and Saint Joseph's on Sunday. The Colonials fell to the Owls, 5-2, but bounced back to sweep the Hawks, 7-0.
GW first took on Temple at the Arthur Ashe Tennis Center, moving indoors due to inclement weather.
Temple took the No. 1 and No. 2 matches over the Colonials in doubles action for the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Freshmen Julia Blakeley and Leah Pascarella secured wins for the Colonials at the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches. Blakeley won 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 2 match, while Pascarella won in three sets, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
The Owls took the No. 1 and No. 4-6 singles matches over the Colonials for the 5-2 win.
In the afternoon match against the Saint Joseph's Hawks, the Colonials found their rhythm. Blakeley and Pascarella shut out their SJU doubles opponents, 8-0, while Mimi Hamling and Zoe Krohn at No. 1 doubles and Jennifer Hirsh and Dorota Lysienia at No. 3 doubles won, 8-2.
Blakeley defeated her Hawks' opponent at No. 1 singles in super tiebreaker 5-7, 7-5, 10-8, while her GW teammates all won their matches in straight sets. Hirsh, at No. 4 singles and Krohn, at No. 6 singles, won 6-0, 6-0, in the 7-0 GW win over Saint Joseph's.
The Colonials next match is Saturday, April 2, when the squad takes on the Longwood Lancers at the Mount Vernon Tennis Center with matches beginning at 10:00 am.
