OCCOQUAN, Va. - The George Washington women's rowing team continued its fall racing schedule Sunday at the Occoquan Chase at Sandy Run Regional Park. The Colonials' Varsity 8 boat finished in third place in the Open 8 event while the freshman boat finished in first place in the Novice 8+.
"We were very excited to get back out on the race course to see how far we have come along since the Head of the Potomac" said head coach Eric Carcich.
The Colonials entered two boats in the Open 8 event with the Varsity 8 taking third place in 16:18 behind winner George Mason (16:07) and North Carolina (16:14). The JV 8 followed in seventh place in 17:53.
The Freshman 8 dominated competition in the Novice 8+ event finishing in 17:48, nearly a full three minutes ahead of second-place Virginia Tech.
"It is very easy to see, while comparing our results from this year to last, how much faster we are getting as a team" said coach Carcich. "I am very excited about the trajectory we are currently on".
The George Washington women's rowing team will be back in action on Sunday, October 30 at the Princeton Chase in Princeton, N.J.
