Women's Tennis Avenges Earlier Loss, Defeats Duquesne, 4-2

ST. LOUIS, MO -- After dropping the doubles point to Duquesne, the GW women's tennis team battled to win four singles matches for the 4-2 second-round victory in the 2010 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship.
Avenging a Feb. 14, 7-0 loss, the Colonials came out strong in singles match-ups. Sophomore Jacqueline Corba won her sixth consecutive match, 6-1, 6-4, over Ana Mungo. Mungo defeated Corba, 6-4, 6-1, in the February loss.
Freshman Mimi Hamling defeated Rachel McGowan, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 2 singles, while Jennifer Hirsh, at No. 4 singles, fell to Erin Conroy 6-1, 6-1, to tie the team total at 2-2
Zoe Krohn won her first set at No. 5 singles 6-1, fell in the second 0-6, but settled down to win in the third set, 6-3, to help the Colonials take a 3-2 lead.
At No. 6 singles, Meg Tyner wrapped up the victory for GW with a straight set 6-2, 6-1, triumph over Tara Majdalani.
The Colonials will face nine-seed Charlotte on Saturday, who upset top-seeded Xavier 4-3 late Friday, at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center. That match is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.(CDT).
