
Colonials Drop A-10 Game to Hawks, 3-0

VILLANOVA, PA -- The George Washington softball team dropped a close Atlantic 10 Conference game to Saint Joseph's, 3-0, on Friday afternoon. The Colonials fall to 5-32 overall, 2-11 in A-10 play while the Hawks improve to 20-14, 4-5 on the season
The Hawks got on the board in the first inning, connecting three hits, including two doubles, to score two runs. SJU scored an insurance run in the third to go up 3-0, with one run on three hits coming on two outs in the inning.
Julie Orlandi broke up Hawk's pitcher Erin Gallagher's no-hitter with a bunt single right in front of home plate in the sixth inning. Amanda Holst replaced Orlandi after she was forced out at second base. Holst was left stranded in the inning.
The Colonials, in the seventh inning, got lead-off batter Jordyn O'Donnell on base off an error by the Hawks shortstop. Amanda Zakeri pinch ran for O'Donnell but was doubled off after Elisa Van Kirk lined out to Gallagher.
Sandi Moynihan got a two-out base hit to center field to get on base for the second time in the game, drawing a walk in the second inning, but was left stranded as Autumn Taylor struck out to end the inning.
Kara Clauss threw a complete six inning game in the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and struck out five.
GW will take on Saint Joesph's on Saturday at noon for a second A-10 match-up before playing Temple for a Sunday double header starting at noon.
