
Colonials Drop A-10 Game to Rams, 3-0

WASHINGTON - The George Washington softball team got back to Atlantic 10 action on Friday, when they welcomed Fordham to Mount Vernon Softball Field for two games in two days. The Rams (33-8, 7-2) took the first match-up, 3-0, from the Colonials (5-27, 2-9).
Colonials starter Elaine Nescio kept the Rams from scoring until the third inning, when they scored one run on two hits.
GW threatened in the fourth inning after Amanda Holst got on with one out, but was the third out of the inning when she was caught stealing second. The Colonials were aggressive on the base paths all game, having three different runners being thrown out at second by the Rams' catcher.
Fordham had a big inning in the fifth, scoring two runs on two hits and one error to go up 3-0 on the Colonials. Kara Clauss came into the game in relief with one out in the inning, getting the next two batters out.
Nescio took the loss in four and a third innings of work, allowing four hits, three runs, walking one and fanning three. Clauss closed out the last two and two-third innings, allowing two hits and striking out one.
The Colonials face off against Fordham for game two on Saturday at noon at Mount Vernon Field. GW will travel to Liberty on Sunday for two games starting at 1:00 p.m.
