Men's Basketball Finishes Fordham, 78-53

BRONX, NY -- George Washington senior Damian Hollis sank a career-high six three-pointers en route to a career-high 26-point outburst to lead the Colonials past Fordham, 78-53, in an Atlantic 10 game Saturday afternoon at Fordham's Rose Hill Gym.
GW freshman Dwayne Smith had his second straight strong outing with 15 points on 5-7 FGs as the Colonials snapped a three-game slide and sent the Rams to their 16th straight defeat. It marked Smith's third double-figure scoring effort in the last four games.
Fordham (2-21, 0-11) was led by Alberto Estwick's 12 points and Chris Gaston's 13 rebounds. Brenton Butler added 11 points for the Rams. The Colonials' defense held Gaston, who was averaging 18 points coming into Saturday's game, 11 below his average. Fordham sank just 5-22 three-pointers and shot just 16-54 (29.6 percent) from the field.
GW (13-10, 3-7) shot 41.8 percent (28-67) from the field but struggled from the line converting just 14-26 (53.8 percent). The Colonials committed just six turnovers while the Rams turned it over 16 times including 14 in the first half.
GW, which opened its biggest lead of the game at 76-49 with 1:57 left in the second half on a lay up by Lasan Kromah, was never threatened after halftime.
