
Softball Falls to La Salle in Atlantic 10 Play

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The George Washington University softball team fell to La Salle, 5-2, in game one and, 2-1, in game two of an Atlantic 10 Conference doubleheader Thursday.
In game one, the Colonials (11-24, 3-7) put up a run on the board in the fifth inning, already facing a 2-0 deficit. Krissy Mackiewicz got on base after Amanda Holst was caught stealing third base. Mackiewicz then advanced to second on the throw and on to third on an error by the La Salle centerfielder. Tori Sensi singled in Mackiewicz for the first GW run of the game.
Sensi came back in the seventh with a solo homerun, but it by then La Salle was already up by four runs.
Amanda Gabriel (6-13) took the loss for the Colonials in six innings of work. Gabriel allowed five runs, four earned, and struck out eight.
In game two, GW scored first in the fourth inning connecting three singles in a row by Katie Terrazas, Elisa Van Kirk and Gabriel. Terrazas scored on a passed ball while Kara Clauss was at-bat. The Colonials then stranded three runners to end the inning.
Heidi Penna (1-4) took the loss, working four and a third innings. Penna allowed six hits and two earned runs. Gabriel threw one and two-thirds innings in relief, striking out two.
The Colonials continue Atlantic 10 play with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 11, at Dayton, Ohio, with the first game starting at 12:00 p.m.
