
Softball Falls twice to Terps

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The George Washington University fell to Maryland in a twilight doubleheader, 2-0, in game one and, 2-1, in game two, on Tuesday. The two losses drop the Colonials to 14-33 on the season.
In game one the Colonials committed a season-high five errors and were held to three hits. GW sprinkled singles in the first, third and seventh innings.
Krissy Mackiewicz stole her tenth base of the season in the third inning after she singled up the middle of the infield.
In the seventh inning, Elisa Van Kirk hit her second double of the season to right center. Jordan O'Donnell came in to pinch run for Van Kirk and O'Donnell advanced to third when Lauren Wilson got on via an error by the Terps first baseman.
Amanda Gabriel ( threw a complete six-inning game, allowing four hits, two unearned runs, walked two and struck out six Terps.
In game two, Tori Sensi went 2-for-3 with a single in the first inning, but forced at second and a single to center in the third, advancing Jillian Stanley to third, after a sacrifice bunt by Mackiewicz, but was left stranded at first.
After Maryland scored in the first inning off of three hits and left two on base, the Colonials tied the score in the top of the fourth with a Lauren Wilson home run to left field.
Maryland broke the 1-1 tie the very next half inning with a home run to left field of their own.
Heidi Penna (1-7) was in the circle for the Colonials in game two, throwing six innings, and allowed seven hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out two.
The Colonials return home on May 2 to host two games at the Mount Vernon Softball Field against Atlantic 10 opponent Saint Louis, with the first game starting at 12:00 p.m. Before the game, Colonials senior softball players, Tori Sensi and Carrie Higdon, will be recognized.
