
Softball Swept by Bonnies at Home

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington softball fell Saturday, to St. Bonaventure, 2-1, in game one, and, 9-6, in game two. The losses drops the Colonials to 14-31, 4-16 in Atlantic 10 play.
In game one, the Bonnies got on the board in the first inning with a two-run home run by Brooke Frey, knocking in Shelly Seeger.
The Colonials got a run in the sixth off an inside-the-park home run by sophomore Katie Terrazas, her fifth home run of the season. GW couldn't connect the momentum to get more runs across the plate.
Junior Amanda Gabriel pitched a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits and struck out three.
In the second game, St. Bonaventure got on the board first, posting two runs in the top of the second. The Colonials game back, scoring one when Gabriel homered to center field.The Bonnies put a single run up in the third to push the lead to two runs.
GW broke open the doors in the fourth inning scoring three in the home half off the inning. Freshman Lauren Wilson started the inning with a double to left center. Gabriel struck out but got to first on a dropped third strike that got past the Bonnies' catcher Frey. Both Wilson and Gabriel were able to advance an extra base on the play.
Freshman Kara Clauss kept the inning going with a single that scored Wilson. Holst followed with a single of her own, scoring Gabriel and pushing Clauss to third after Clauss stole second.
Freshman Krissy Mackiewicz sacrifice bunted Clauss home and Holst to third after she stole second earlier in the at-bat.
The Colonials got two runs in the fifth to take the lead, 6-3, after Terrazas scored on a wild pitch and Gabriel doubled home Wilson.
St. Bonaventure put up four in the sixth and two in the seventh. The Colonials just could not bounce back.
GW goes on the road to Maryland, Tuesday, April 28, for a twilight doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m., to make up the originally scheduled games from April 15. The Colonials close the regular season on Saturday, May 2, hosting Saint Louis for a doubleheader match-up starting at 12:00 p.m.
