
Softball Drops Pair at Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA - The George Washington University softball team fell to the University of Virginia 10-0 in five innings and 9-1 in six innings on Saturday. The losses drop the Colonials to 2-6 in the young season. The Cavaliers improve to 11-5.
In game one, Amanda Gabriel (1-3) took the loss though she struck out five Cavaliers and only walked one in four innings of work.
The Colonials were able to get four hits off Virginia. Tori Sensi, Elisa Van Kirk and Amanda Holst all hit singles while Jordyn O'Donnell collected three bases, but none were able to push runs across the plate.
In game two, Tori Sensi tallied a RBI when she scored Krissy Mackiewicz in the first inning, the only run for GW.
Lauren Wilson got two hits in the second game as she caught both Kara Clauss (1-2) for four innings and Carrie Higdon for one. Clauss struck out six, walked five and gave up four hits in the loss while Higdon gave up three hits in a short amount of relief.
The Colonials face the Cavaliers for a third game on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at the Park in Charlottesville, VA.
