
Women's Tennis Upsets Rival Georgetown, 4-3

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's tennis team defeated Georgetown, 4-3, at the Montclair Country Club in Woodbridge, VA, on Wednesday afternoon. The victory improves the Colonials young spring record to 2-1.
In doubles competition, the Colonials won the No. 1 match-up with the pair freshman Jacqui Corba and sophomore Nadia Demidenko, 8-5, but it was the No. 3 flight victory that eventually proved to be the deciding point. Junior Verena Knoedler and freshman Zoe Krohn defeated their Georgetown opponents 8-3.
In singles play, GW took the top three flights against their Hoyas counterparts. Demidenko was up 2-1 before her opponent retired from the match. Sophomore Jennifer Hirsh was victorious 7-5, 6-4, while Corba defeated her opponent 6-4, 6-1.
The Hoyas were able to bounce back and win flights 4 though 6 over the Colonials.
The women's tennis team goes on the road to face Duquesne at 2 p.m. on Feb. 15.
