Massachusetts Proves Too Much for Women's Tennis

PHILADELPHIA, PA - George Washington women's tennis was defeated by Massachusetts in an Atlantic 10 Conference match Friday afternoon, at Temple's home courts in Philadelphia, PA. The Colonials fell to 5-10 overall, and 0-3 in league play, while the Minutewomen improved to 8-9 overall, 2-0 in the A-10 this season.
UMass swept through doubles 3-0, winning the first two flights, 8-3, and took the third flight, 8-2.
The Minutewomen won positions one through three in addition to the fifth and sixth flights in singles play, without dropping a set or losing more than four games in any stanza. The lone GW point came in the No. 4 position, where Verena Knoedler defeated Tanisha Hodgson, 6-1, 2-6, 6-3. The win improved Knoedler's overall record to 8-7.
George Washington's match against Temple, originally set for Sunday, was cancelled and will not be rescheduled. The Colonials will host James Madison on Saturday, Apr. 12, at 2:00 p.m., as part of their `Aces and Bases' celebration with GW softball.
