Women's Tennis Wins Final Two Regular Season Matches

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington women's tennis won a pair of non-conference home matches over the weekend at the Mount Vernon Tennis Courts as they completed their 2007-2008 regular season. The Colonials (7-10) downed James Madison (8-11) on Friday, 5-2, to snap a five-match losing streak, and then rolled past Howard, 7-0, on Sunday. It marked the first back-to-back wins for GW since Sept. 29-30, 2007.
In Friday's match, GW started strong against JMU and took two of the three doubles matches to claim the double point. Nadia Demidenko and Jennifer Hirsh teamed up to win, 8-4, from the No. 1 doubles position. In singles, the Colonials took four of the six individual matches from the Dukes. GW got wins from Demidenko, Hirsh, Madhuri Jha and Michele Style, playing from the No. 1, 2, 5 and 6 flights, respectively.
On Sunday, GW cruised through Howard (4-6), earning their first seven-point sweep of the season. The Colonials took all three doubles matches from the Bison, including a tight 9-8 (3-0) win from the duo of Michele Style and Tracy Stecko in the No. 3 slot. GW won all six singles matches, taking the first four flights in just two sets.
George Washington finished their 2007-08 regular season with a 7-10 overall mark, 0-3 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. Freshman Nadia Demidenko led the way with a 17-5 overall mark in singles play.
The Colonials open play at the 2008 A-10 Women's Tennis Championship Friday, Apr. 18, at Club 4 Life in Monroeville, PA.
