WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University women's tennis lost to Richmond, 5-2, in an Atlantic 10 Conference home match played at Montclair Country Club early Saturday afternoon. It was the first Colonials home match of the 2008 season and dropped their overall record to 4-3.
Richmond, A-10 champions for the past four consecutive years, took the doubles point from GW, winning all three matches. Kendall Swenson and Nadia Demidenko played tough from the No. 1 position, but in the end fell, 8-6.
In singles play, Richmond's Pamela Duran, last season's Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer, overmatched Swenson in the No. 1 position, 6-0, 7-5. The two George Washington victories came from Demidenko, in the second singles spot, who won 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, and from No. 3 player Jennifer Hirsh. Hirsh, a freshman, took her match 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 to improve her over record this year to 6-2.
George Washington continues their 2008 schedule Saturday, Feb. 16, when they travel to Lynchburg, VA, for a match with Liberty, at 6:00 p.m.
