Friday's Game: The Colonials face BU in the season-opener for both teams. The teams also opened the 2006-07 season at Agganis Arena, a 70-57 GW victory.
• GW has won its last three season openers. The last time GW lost an opener was on Nov. 17, 2004 at No. 2 Wake Forest, coached by the late Skip Prosser, in the Preseason NIT at Winston-Salem, NC.
• The GW-BU series dates back 50 years to the 1958-59 season.
• GW has won nine straight in the series, most recently one year ago tonight at GW (69-56).
• GW also opened the 2006-07 season at BU and won, 70-57, in Agganis Arena.
• BU is picked to win the nine-team America East Conference in the league's Preseason Coaches' Poll announced Oct. 24.
• GW is picked to finish 11th in the 14-team Atlantic 10 Conference in the league's Preseason Coaches' and Media Poll announced Oct. 28.
• Tonight's coaches have similar basketball roots. Both GW's Hobbs and BU's Wolff played their college ball at UConn and GW's Hobbs began his coaching career as an assistant at Boston U. in 1987. Hobbs was an assistant coach at BU for six seasons under former GW coach Mike Jarvis and later under Bob Brown.
• GW has won 54 of its last 80 regular-season games and 32 of its last 48 A-10 games.
A Closer Look at Boston U.: A school of nearly 16,000 students, Boston U. has been picked to win the America East Conference in the preseason coaches' poll announced Oct. 27. BU returns all five starters from last year's 14-17 team which included a 69-56 loss at GW. The BU roster is heavy on juniors including `07 AEC Rookie of the Year, Tyler Morris. Junior Corey Lowe is a 6-2 shooting guard who averaged 18.1 points and hit 92 three-pointers last year. Junior guard Carlos Strong poured in 11.1 points a game and sophomore John Holland, who played alongside GW's Jabari Edwards at St. Benedict's Prep, added 11.4 points and five rebounds per outing. Scott Brittain (10.0 ppg, 6.3 rebounds) figures to be a key Terrier this season as well. Former Colonials and GW Hall of Famer Matt Zunic (`43) became one of BU's more successful coaches with a seven-year record of 96-58 (.623) from 1952-59. Zunic, who died in Dec., 2006 at age 87, took the Terriers to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 1959.
