GW Extends Karl Hobbs' Contract Through 2012

WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington University Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz announced today that the University has extended the contract of men's basketball head coach Karl Hobbs through June 30, 2012. Terms of the contract have not been disclosed.
Hobbs is in his seventh season at GW, which is his first head coaching position, and has an overall career record of 114-65 (.637) including a 72-20 (.783) mark and three NCAA Tournament appearances over the past three seasons. The Colonials have won two Atlantic 10 Conference tournament titles in the last three seasons under Hobbs.
A former assistant coach for eight seasons at the University of Connecticut, Hobbs was hired at GW on May 7, 2001. Hobbs signed his first GW contract extension in May, 2003, which took him through June 30, 2008. He signed another extension in Feb., 2005, which took him through June 30, 2011.
"Karl has done an outstanding job for us here at GW," said Kvancz. "He is a special person who is also an excellent coach."
"I am impressed by coach Hobbs' continued commitment to student-athletes in their athletic pursuits and in the classroom," said GW President Steven Knapp. "We are very fortunate to have a coach of his caliber and character at GW."
"The new multi-year contract the University has granted to Coach Hobbs is a reflection of our continued confidence in his ability to lead our program to greater success, combined with the expectation that he will continue to do so with the utmost of integrity," said GW Senior Vice President Robert Chernak.
GW (23-9, 11-5 A-10) is coming off its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance after earning an automatic bid. The No. 3 seed in the 2007 Atlantic 10 Tournament, the Colonials won three straight games and captured the A-10 championship on March 10 in Atlantic City, NJ.
