Pinnock Powers Panama in Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV -- Former George Washington basketball player, Danilo (J.R.) Pinnock, is competing for Team Panama at the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship in Las Vegas NV. The tournament is taking place Aug. 22 through Sept. 2 and features 10 of the world's best national teams, including Team USA. The teams are competing for a spot in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.
Team Panama is in Group A, along with 2004 Olympic Gold Medalists, Argentina, as well as Uruguay, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Among the five teams in Group B is Team USA, along with the U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada, Venezuela, and Brazil.
Pinnock led the Panamanian team (2-3) with 17.2 ppg in the Pan Am Games July 25-29, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He scored a team-high 23 points in Panama's 75-67 victory over the United States on July 26.
Pinnock scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Wednesday's 88-84 overtime loss to Uruguay.
