Women's Rowing Finishes Sixth At Atlantic 10 Championships

Pennsauken, NJ - The George Washington University women's rowing team took part in the 12th Annual Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championships this weekend. After winning last year's Varsity Eight, the Colonials finished a disappointing sixth place, out of nine schools.
The University of Massachusetts won its 12th Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship title in as many years this afternoon on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ. The 12-championship title streak is the longest in any sport in Atlantic 10 history.
The Minutewomen edged out second-place Rhode Island (44) by just one point with a 45 point total. The two teams entered the final event, the Quad Grand Final, tied at 39 before Massachusetts captured its first win of the day taking the Quad in a time of 7:18.5. Rhode Island finished second (7:42.4) in the event to keep the scoring tight. Duquesne posted its highest finish ever with 26 points for third place and Saint Joseph's finished fourth with 24 points. The Hawks were followed by Dayton (20 points), George Washington (16 points), Temple (13 points), Fordham (11 points), and La Salle (6 points).
UMass won gold in the Quad and finished second in five other events en route to the team title. Rhode Island captured first-place in every Varsity event (Varsity 4 (7:53.3), 2nd Varsity 8 (6:58.0), Varsity 8 (6:42.5)) for the first time in A-10 history and grabbed gold in the Novice 8-A Grand Final as well. Duquesne captured two events, winning the Novice 4 (8:13.6) and setting a new A-10 Championship record in the Lightweight 8 with a time of 7:56.0, while Dayton won the Lightweight 8 (7:27.3).
Rhode Island head coach Shelagh Donohoe was named Coach of the Year in voting conducted among the Conference's head coaches.
