Basketball's Maureece Rice Declares For NBA Draft

WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington junior Maureece Rice (Philadelphia, PA) has entered his name as an early-entry candidate in the 2007 NBA Draft but plans to keep his NCAA eligibility options open. Underclassmen have until Sunday, April 29 to declare for the June 28 NBA Draft, but they can withdraw their names up until Monday, June 18. Rice has not retained an agent.

A starter in all 32 games during the 2006-07 season, Rice led the team in scoring with a 15.8 points-per-game average. He also led the team in 3-point FGs made with 64 and shot 43 percent (64-149) from beyond the arc. He was third on team in assists (66) and fourth in steals (43).

The 2006 Atlantic 10 Conference Sixth Man of the Year, Rice was named to the prestigious National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 4 second team on Feb. 28 and was named the A-10 Tournament's Most Outstanding Player in Atlantic City March 10. He was selected to the A-10 All-Conference third team on March 5.

Rice scored a total of 505 points this season to eclipse the 471 total points of his first two seasons combined.

GW (23-9, 11-5 A-10) is coming off its third straight NCAA Tournament appearance after earning an automatic bid. The No. 3 seed in the 2007 Atlantic 10 Tournament, the Colonials won three straight games and captured the A-10 championship on Mar. 10 in Atlantic City, NJ. GW was a No. 11 seed in the 2007 NCAA Tournament where they fell to No. 6 seed Vanderbilt in the first round on Mar. 15 in Sacramento, CA, in the East Regional.
