WASHINGTON, DC -- Former George Washington basketball standout Mike Hall has signed a contract with the NBA's Washington Wizards for the remainder of the 2006-07 season, Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld announced Wednesday.
Hall previously signed a pair of 10-day contracts with Washington on February 28 and March 10, 2007.
Hall is the third player from the 2005-06 Colonials' team to make the jump to the National Basketball Association. Danilo (J.R.) Pinnock was selected with the 58th pick in the second round of the NBA Draft on June 28, by the Dallas Mavericks, before his rights were dealt to the Los Angeles Lakers. Pinnock, since waived, is playing for the Arkansas Rimrockers in the NBA Developmental League. Pops Mensah-Bonsu is a member of the NBA finalist Mavericks.
Hall appeared in 29 games for the Tulsa 66ers in the NBDL this season, where he posted averages of 15.6 points and 8.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 49 percent from the field. Hall, who was originally signed as a free agent on September 13, 2006 by the Wizards, averaged 3.8 points and 3.4 rebounds in five preseason games with Washington. Hall is the 13th Gatorade Call-up of the year and will wear jersey number 42.
A 6-8 forward and Chicago native, Hall posted career averages of 10.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, while shooting 48 percent from the field in 117 collegiate career games with GW. He averaged 11.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in 30 games during his senior season. Hall became the first Colonials player to lead the team in rebounding all four years since Alexander Koul accomplished the feat from 1994-95 through 1997-98.
The signing marks the first time in 50 years that GW has had two former players in the NBA at the same time. Former Colonials Walter (Corky) Devlin (`55) and Joe Holup (`56) played for NBA teams during the 1957 and `58 seasons. Devlin with the Fort Wayne (now Detroit) Pistons and Holup with the Syracuse Nationals (now the Philadelphia 76ers) in `57 and the Detroit Pistons in `58.
