CATONSVILLE, Md. (AP) -- Brian Hodges scored 22 of his 27 points in the second half, Darryl Proctor added 17 points and 13 rebounds and Maryland-Baltimore County surprised George Washington 89-79 on Saturday.
Wynton Witherspoon led GW (2-1) with 21 points and Rob Diggs had 19. Damian Hollis and Xavier Alexander scored 10 points each.

UMBC took control with a 55-15 burst that began with 6:26 remaining in the first half and the Colonials ahead 28-16. Hodges and Barbosa nailed consecutive 3-pointers -- the Retrievers' first back-to-back baskets of the game -- to begin the comeback and the Retrievers finished 12-for-25 from beyond the arc.
A baseline jumper by Proctor gave UMBC its first lead, 33-32, with 1:15 remaining in the first half.
Hodges was 6-for-7 from 3-point range in the second half as UMBC went up by 18 points on his 3 from the right corner with 9:55 left. GW responded with a 13-3 run, but Hodges ended the burst with a right-wing 3-pointer.
Proctor scored 13 first-half points and UMBC closed the opening 20 minutes on a 19-6 run for a 35-34 lead at halftime.
George Washington dominated early, hitting 10 of its first 12 shots from the field for a quick 24-13 lead. But the Colonials followed with a 4-for-19 drought from the floor, while 3-pointers from Hodges and Barbosa ignited the Retrievers' comeback.
