WASHINGTON, DC - The No. 11/13 George Washington women's basketball team, winner of seven consecutive games, takes on Atlantic-10 foe Rhode Island at the Smith Center on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
GW (14-2, 3-0 A-10) carries a nine-game home winning streak into Thursday night's contest, a mark that dates back to a 69-65 win over Charlotte last February. The Colonials current seven-game winning streak ties Ball State and TCU for the 12th longest in the nation.
A victory over URI on Thursday would mark the best start in program history at 15-2. GW enjoys a 30-4 advantage in the all-time series, including a perfect 17-0 mark at the Smith Center, and has won 11 straight over the Rams.
Head coach Joe McKeown captured his 400th GW victory in Sunday's 61-48 triumph against Massachusetts. Senior Kenan Cole led the way against the Minutewomen with a season-high 19 points and averaged a team-best 15.0 ppg in the Colonials three conference wins last week.
Rhode Island (4-13, 2-1 A-10) defeated Massachusetts and Duquesne to open league play, but dropped a 61-57 decision at La Salle on Sunday. Junior Safi Mojidi paces the Rams with 14.9 ppg, but scored a career-high 31 points against the Dukes and is averaging 21.6 points over her last five games.
