Williamsburg, VA - The George Washington University men's and women's cross country teams traveled to Williamsburg, VA to compete in the William & Mary Colonial Inter-Regional against several regionally and nationally ranked teams on the Dunbar Farms course at Eastern State Hospital Saturday morning. The men were led by junior Joe Altenau (Fordham Prep/Eastchester, NY) who set a new personal record while leading GW to a ninth-place team finish. The women welcomed back sophomore Audrey Noonan (Barrington H.S./Barrington, RI) who led the Colonials to a sixth place team finish in her first race back from injury.
Altenau set a personal best time of 26:18.3 to finish in 48th place to lead GW. He set his previous personal best at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Championships at Belmont Plateau. It was also his first career meet where he was the leader for the Colonials. The consistent senior Daniel Morgan (Boyle County H.S./Danville, KY) finished second for the Colonials in 54th place, clocking in at 26:33.3. Next came freshman Andrew Coleman (Cumberland H.S./Cumberland/RI) who set a season-best time of 26:54.4 on the eight-kilometer course, good for 62nd place. Sophomore Keith Moody (Spruce Creek H.S./Orange, FL) finished fourth the Colonials in 27:52.6, 68th overall. Coming in right after Moody was junior Christian Woodside (Edmond Memorial H.S./Edmond, OK) who made his season debut, claimed 69th place, covering the course in 28:00.7.
Noonan, in her first race back off various injuries, led the Colonials in 22:57, 17th place overall. Noonan has led the Colonials in five consecutive meets in which she has competed. Graduate Student Kate Neeper (Chaparral H.S./Parker, CO) cut off nearly 30 seconds from her last race and finished second for GW with a time of 23:16, good for 25th place overall.
