WASHINGTON, DC -- George Washington junior Carl Elliott (Brooklyn, NY) has withdrawn his name from the list of early entry candidates for the 2006 NBA Draft and will return to GW for his senior season, the GW Department of Athletics has announced. Elliott worked out for the Washington Wizards on June 13 and the New York Knicks last Friday but did not hire an agent.
GW's starting point guard for the last three seasons, Elliott led team in assists for the third straight year with 117 for an average of 3.9 assists per game. He also led the team--and the A-10--in 3-point FG percentage at .438 and was second on team in steals with 59. He was named to the A-10 All-Conference second team on March 6.
GW (27-3, 16-0 A-10) is coming off the best year in the 92-season history of the program. The Colonials won all 16 Atlantic 10 Conference games en route to the regular-season title and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as an 8th seed. The Colonials defeated No. 9-seed UNC Wilmington in the first round Mar. 16 before falling to overall No. 1 seed Duke in the second round on Mar. 18, in Greensboro, NC, as part of the Atlanta Regional.
