WASHINGTON, DC -- Washington Post Radio (WTWP 1500 AM and 107.7 FM) and the George Washington University Department of Athletics have reached a multi-year agreement to broadcast GW's men's basketball games this season, GW Director of Athletics Jack Kvancz has announced.
"We are extremely excited about our relationship with Washington Post Radio and Bonneville D.C," Kvancz said. "This relationship will have a tremendous impact on the listenership of GW men's basketball games. Our fans, alumni and supporters throughout the Washington area will be able to follow the team more easily than they have in many years."
Washington Post Radio, which hit the airwaves March 30 and broadcasts on 107.7 FM and 1500 AM, features one of the strongest local signals that can be heard throughout the metropolitan area.
"We are extremely excited about the new affiliation with a GW Basketball program that was ranked in the top 10 in the country last season," Washington Post Radio's Michael Spacciapolli said. "This relationship will benefit both parties on numerous fronts in the years to come."
GW's award-winning play-by-play announcer, Byron Kerr, will continue to call the action on Washington Post Radio.
The Colonials are coming off the best season in the program's 92-season history. GW posted a 27-3 overall record and a perfect 16-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. GW won its first-round game in the Atlanta Region over UNC Wilmington for its first NCAA Tournament victory in 12 years. Coach Karl Hobbs will return his starting backcourt from last season in senior guards Carl Elliott and Danilo Pinnock, as well as the A-10's Sixth Man of the Year, Maureece Rice.
Season tickets can be purchased by contacting the GW Athletics Ticket Office at 202-994-6050 or by email to: gwcoltix@gwu.edu. Fans also can log on to the new Colonials Nation ticketing site.
