WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington women's basketball team jumped one spot to No. 19 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and two spots to No. 18 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released early this week.
GW improved in the AP rankings for the second consecutive week and for the third time since joining the Top 25 on November 20. The AP voters moved GW ahead of Michigan State, which fell 65-50 against No. 7 LSU on Sunday. GW climbed in the Coaches' Poll for the fourth time in five weeks. The Colonials handled Auburn, 62-51, in their Smith Center non-conference finale on Saturday to move to 9-2, the fifth-best start in school history.
In addition, the Atlantic 10 Conference is set to announce its CSTV women's basketball package for the conference season, in which GW is slated to appear twice. The Colonials' Feb. 3 contest at Richmond and regular-season finale versus Temple at Smith Center on Feb. 25 will air live on CSTV. GW's meeting at Richmond, which was originally scheduled for a 7:00 pm tip-off, was moved to a 12:00 pm start to accommodate CSTV's programming. CSTV, which is owned by CBS, is available on Comcast, Time Warner, Cox, Charter, Adelphia and Insight cable systems, among others, and is also available on DirecTV (channel 610) and DISH Network (Channel 152). GW's game at Xavier on Jan. 21 will be broadcast on ESPN2.
GW and head coach Joe McKeown has 10 days to rest before taking on No. 11/10 Georgia in the opening round of the Surf `N Slam Hoop Classic in San Diego, CA, on Dec. 28.
