WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the Division of Student and Academic Support Services, is pleased to announce a student admission plan for all home men's and women's basketball games at Charles E. Smith Athletic Center. In summary, all full-time undergraduate students and graduate students at GW will be admitted free to all home basketball games at Smith Center. Tickets will not be required for admission to home games. Student seating is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
This decision is based on an extensive series of conversations with students, student organization leaders, campus media and the leadership of the Colonial Army. Through these conversations, student input has helped guide and advise the University to create a set of clear and simple recommendations regarding student admission to home basketball games at Smith Center.
Student feedback from these various groups now reflect a plan that is easily applied and fair for all students. Given that student fans continue to demonstrate a growing interest for seats, it is hoped this plan meets the demands among students interested in attending GW home basketball games.
Given the desire to accommodate student interest at games, we are following the recommendation from these student sessions to create a one-step process to ensure that any eligible student interested in attending home games has a valid GWorld ID. This effort to validate GWorld ID will ensure any student who wants free admission to games in Charles E. Smith Athletic Center has the opportunity to attend these games.
TicketMaster staff, located at Marvin Center, will coordinate this annual validation and details will be announced as the logistics to verify student status are confirmed by University staff. Eligibility for free student admission to home games will remain for all students, including full-time undergraduates and graduates.
There will be one line at the Student Entrance and all students who show a valid ID will be allowed into the arena. Seats will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
To best meet the interests and needs of our loyal student fans, conversations will continue with students, student organization leaders, the student media, and Colonial Army, to ensure additional student recommendations are taken into account when planning promotional incentives and game-day activities.
Among them is a desire to create a low cost, celebratory event to mark the start of the season. This event will be designed with student input and planned in conjunction with Dept. of Athletics, Student Activities Center, and the Spirit Programs, to ensure that the student community is introduced to the players and we celebrate the enthusiasm surrounding the start of the 2006-07 basketball season.
Finally, in recognition of their long-standing support of GW Athletics, efforts will be made to find new, innovative membership benefits which continue to connect the Colonial Army to the excitement of game day activities and which foster the school spirit and campus tradition which they helped cultivate in the past few years.
